A lot of people think that thicker insulation is better insulation. However, this is not necessarily true. All insulation is tested at 70 degrees Fahrenheit in an environment without movement of air. This is not a condition that you will find in an average home. As such, the R rating you actually get may even be greater than the one that is listed.
